Coastal restoration project

According to the Nádia Schilling, ‘it's well known that cliffs and dunes have an enormous ecological sensitivity and are subjected to a natural erosion caused by the sea and wind’. Nádia Schilling is the landscape designer who was designed coastal restoration project in Portugal.  The project is located on Foz do Arelho, Portugal. The global warming and pollution would increase erosion of cliffs and dunes, the human activities would bring same negative effects for cliffs and dunes as well. For example, the visitors would park cars in improper area, which could destroy the vegetation of cliffs and dunes. In addition, the accelerated corrosion cliffs and dunes would lead to unsafe hidden dangers. Thus, the objective of project is protecting ecological environment of this coastline and the visitor’s safety.

Nádia Schilling set up wooden walkway around the coastline. The wooden walkway follows the topography of cliffs and dunes. Moreover, the wooden walkway could be blending into the natural environment. The aperture of wooden walkway did not impact drainage and vegetation in coastline. The walkway also provides a suitable visit route for visitors, which could avoid human-caused destruction of nature and recover the original ecology environment of coastline. The topography of cliffs and dunes lead to abundant layering of wooden walkway. The designer also provides landscape nodes where could take a rest for visitors.
