XinTianDi Redevelopment Project in Shanghai, China




The XinTianDi area is an urban renewal project in Shanghai, China. This site was renewed by Shui On Group (a real estate company from Hong Kong), being changed from a low social-economic area to the historic commercial blocks during 2001. The first picture shows the location of XinTianDi area.
The XinTianDi project have south region and north region. This project is mix land use area. The function of this project include commerce, recreation, culture, restaurant and pedestrian street. The buildings type of XinTianDi project cover traditional building and modern building. The traditional building type follow the Shikumen Gate which is a traditional building type of Shanghai. The following pictures show the traditional Shikumen Gate and the renew building type.




The main feature of XinTianDi project is continuation and development of traditional building type of Shanghai. The building’s appearance of XinTianDi project preserve original feature of building. In addition, the inside of building be rebuilt due to security and practical reasons.
Thus, this project become a protection method of architectural culture heritage. This method could be used in developing countries. The following pictures show the appearance of XinTianDi project.
