Moesgaard Museum, Aarhus, Denmark


The Moesgaard Museum project present a sustainable culture, ecosystem and building material project. The project is located on Skåde, Denmark. This building have green slope roof, which become a powerful visual landmark. The first picture shows the appearance and surrounding environment of Moesgaard Museum.



In the summer, the rectangle-shaped roof plane could be use for for outdoor lectures, barbeques, picnics and traditional Midsummer Day’s bonfires. In the winter, the slope roof would become sledding hill. The outdoor space of project become an interesting public space for residents. According to the Henning Larsen (2015), ‘The interior of the building is designed to evoke a varied terraced landscape, which is inspired by archaeological excavations as they gradually unearth the layers of history and expose lost civilisations’. The second picture shows the indoor view of Moesgaard Museum.


The selection of building materials considers the technical settings, economy, durability, acoustics, colour palette, sustainability and maintenance at the same time. The Moesgaard Museum is an aesthetic, comfortable and energy-efficient building. Thus, this museum provides a possible solution of cultural, biological and building material sustainability.
